While waiting out the storms passing through the region, we rented a car and drove to Lecce for the day. With a beautiful old town, it was a great way to spend some time. We had some telecom issues to sort through as well, and paid a visit to Vodafone.
The old city of Lecce offered a number of interesting sights, including a small amphitheatre, a very impressive Duomo and all plenty of interesting stores.
Given that the majority of the tourists have gone home, many of the shops were as empty as the streets. I appreciate the lack of crowds, personally.
One thing that is apparent, is the increased diversity in this town. Many of the tourist towns that we visit with the boat are old, white and European. But when you get to the larger towns, the diversity appears and it is apparent that many people here are struggling to get by.
