It’s time to head home. Home Free is getting prepped by the good folks at YachtTech for some time in the Bahamas after Christmas and Andrew and I will head home tomorrow.
While we are away we are getting the engine on the dinghy engine fixed, that shaft over heating problem looked at and a new VHF radio installed among other things. All these items will ensure that our trip to the Bahamas is not fouled by ‘obvious’ issues.
I have enjoyed my time in the Med, but I am very much looking forward to an experienced Nordhavn specialist taking control of my boat for a couple of weeks and performing the maintenance. I will be very relaxed over Christmas knowing that Home Free is in good hands.
Today, I did purchase a trolling rod for the trip across the Gulf Stream. I’m not sure how much I want to clean fish, but I would like to see what it is like to hook into a 40-50 lb fish. The guy guiding me on equipment made sure I got a gaff to bring a fish in, it is 5 feet down to the water from the back rail. I will be reading internet posts over Christmas on how to clean a Mahi-Mahi, just in case.
Tomorrow, back to the cold!
