How I Fill My Soul

Some of the cultural events I have experienced to explore the world and fill my soul.

April 3-4, 2026 – Hadrian’s Wall – see blog post

March 28, 2026 – Songwriter’s Circle – Juno Awards. Eight of the best songwriters in the country talking about their experiences and playing their songs.

March 21, 2026 – William Prince – Went to my first ever concert at Massey Hall! He didn’t play my favourite song (Sing Me a Song) but his music is very easy to listen to.

February 18, 2026 – Hamilton – The Musical at Victoria Palace Theatre, London

February 14-18, 2026 – Natural History Museum (nice rocks, too busy), Saatchi Gallery (Meh), The National Gallery (Wow), The Courtauld Gallery (Wow).

February 14, 2026 – The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry at Theatre Royal Haymarket, London

January 2026 – I’m not sure that spending a week at Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda (Mayan Riviera, Mexico) really counts as a cultural event but spending a week with my sister and family friends was at least an escape. It was timed as a last minute event to soak up some sunshine and avoid the blizzard in Canada. The resort is minimalist at best, but the sun and ocean work the same here as any resort.

December 19, 2025 – &Juliet. A fun play that is all about female empowerment. What if Romeo and Juliet hadn’t died. An exploration of options, choices and outcomes through dance and modern songs. Excellent and fun show.

December 3, 2025 – The Sound of Music. A wonderful version of the classic story. A few things out of place from the movie and a couple of new songs but still an uplifting telling of a classic just before Christmas.

November 26, 2025 – Ava, The Secret Conversations. Elizabeth McGovern wrote and starred in this production. It was a wonderful play uncovering the life of Ava Gardner. I went in knowing nothing and was impressed by the simplicity of the production. The acting was excellent and showed a lot of range too. It was just two actors on stage and a voice behind the scenes. Simple and enlightening.

September 3, 2025 – Goodnight Oscar (at the Barbican theatre in London) this was an amazing production with Sean Hayes. I didn’t know who Oscar Levant was before I went, and hearing his story and seeing Sean Hayes playing Rachmaninoff live was exceptional. I loved it.

July 17, 2025 – George Li @ Koerner Hall – During the Toronto Summer Music Festival he played Beethoven’s Moonlight & Tempest Sonatas, Debussy’s Images and Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition.
