Minca Coffee Tour – Colombia

January 6, 2024

We have arrived in Colombia (January 2nd) and were finally able to leave the boat on the afternoon of January 3rd. Today, we finally did a ‘proper’ tour, the Minca coffee tour, and got quite some pictures of the environs.

I may go back to add in some details later, but here are a few videos and photos from the day.

Toucan looking for some food
Parrots Fighting over some food
Looking out over Santa Marta from Minca
That little Yellow Roof is where we ate lunch (Jungle Joe’s EcoLodge) and it was quite amazing

The Toucan is almost certainly a ‘Keel billed Toucan’.

With hundreds of parrot/parakeet/conures I can’t identify this pair, but I would guess they are proper parakeets and I have no experience in distinguishing the different types.

The blue bird is a ‘blue-gray Tanager’ probably.

The black bird with the white tail is a ‘black-chested Jay’, notable because of it’s blue eye brows

The little green bird is perhaps a sapphire bellied hummingbird. He stayed put for a long time, has a long tongue and very high wing speed. So I believe it is a hummingbird.

The entire place is packed with tourists and honking vehicles and mud and dirt. Still a beautiful trip but it wasn’t as quaint as one might think.
