Hairy Drain Fix

This is just a post about clearing the plumbing of hair, another one of those maintenance/log/information posts.

Over the past few months, the plumbing in the shower has been getting progressively worse and the drain hasn’t cleared very well. Being in a Spanish speaking country, and far from North American brands, it is hard to know which bottle in the grocery store has the appropriate magic to clear a drain (A DrainO or Mr. Plumr or something like that).

So I turned to the trusty internet, and found the perfect recipe (on Mr. Plumr’s website no less). The process is as follows:

1. Pour a pot of boiling water down the drain.
2. Put some Baking Soda in the drain (I used about 1/4 cup I would guess, it doesn’t all make it down the drain at first.
3. Then pour about a cup of vinegar down the drain. It bubbles and boils so don’t get your face close to it.
4. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes
5. Then pour ANOTHER pot of boiling water down the drain

I followed this procedure pretty closely and the crap that bubbled up out of the drain was amazing (and disgusting). Then I took a shower and there is no clog anymore. Worked like a charm.
